| haha.. it's been a while since i typed in english, feels weird. 已經習慣用中文打了!(我msn space都是用中文的). How has everybody been recently? it seems that my life is continually revolving around medicine and tzu chi now, and more so in the last 4 or 5 months... each day is the same as the previous, very tiring, and boring... this month, assignments are piling up one on top of the other, one due a week or so.. in addition to literature review and methods section for the final thesis.. all to be completed by end of november, so that my trip back to tw is free of emergency medicine. Furthermore, life has become busier with WHO petition, as we once again started up for the 2007 petition. However, it has also become lighter since a lot of the 台灣同鄉會 sub-organisations collapsed this year... oh well! I was intending on stopping those anyway... wanna concentrate on what's important and learn skills at the hospital as much as i can. In the last few months, been watching many dramas like 急速引擎 (Engine), 白色巨塔 (White Tower), 一公升的淚 (One Litre of Tears), 太陽之歌 (Song To The Sun), 宮 (Princess Hours), 深情密碼 (Silence)... is a lot i know! These are all really good... should all watch these! btw... Death Note anime is out... as is the jap movie! Pity that Australia never has any of these things...
對的.. 我年底要回台灣.. 耶! 太棒了! 小吃,夜市,便宜的東西等我喔! 這次回去打算大玩兩禮拜,過後再去花蓮受幹訓,和參加志工營... 應該會得到不少智慧!

| Exam mode, started on Monday (yesterday) at a very sleepy 2pm with 100
MCQs, a lot of which were weird. Too many pharmacology, and
contraceptive questions. The neuro and endocrine questions were also
quite hard, but a lot better i guess. Overall, I think I should have
passed... hopefully!
Had an OSCE today, comprising of an interview, visual acuity and visual
fields exams. The visual exams were fine, pretty easy, but the
interview was just strange. It was a typical carer case, where a 58 yr
old woman who cares for her 84 yr old mother has come in to shed some
light on her mother's physical condition, past history and so forth.
The simulated patient I had though, just kept rambling on and on about
mostly irrelevant information... and was always acting depressed and
frustrated. Some others I talked to who also got this patient said she
kept rambling on about her cats and dogs... which I'm pretty sure are
of little relevance.
oh.. and this was done after sitting in a holding room twiddling my thumbs for 3 hrs... perhaps that's why!
So... in summary... how have i done so far over the past 2 days?
Answer: Absolutely no idea!
Well... Good Luck! Study Hard! Add Oil! Ganbante!

| High cortisol levels, as a result of adrenal cortical release in
response to stress. I find it more than coincidental that the last case
study the past week focuses on such a mechanism as this, as I think it
would apply very well with my current physiology, or that of the last
week.
With the Victorian Students' Aid Project launch week, the Apollo Health
Music Society concert, and other little things thrown in to spice up my
week, compounding on top of a load of to-do study, my relative levels
of stress hormones including cortisol should be quite high.
Furthermore, some effects of cortisol apart from helping cope with
stress are depressed immunity, and slower wound healing. To reflect
this, I re-injured my right knee, which when last I saw a doctor and
physio, got no answer to. My knee still hurts and it has been almost a
week now. In addition, yesterday I developed flu like symptoms which
seem to have progressed to today, despite drinking ridiculously
excessive amount of water, and keeping warm.
With exams looming in less than a month, I need to recover from any and
all of these injuries, ailments. I hope I won't have to rely on my
adaptive immune system to get rid of this cold, else it may last longer
than I would like.
On the bright side, although that is a little hard to see with a
different set point for my hypothalamic temperature regulator, a
blocked nose, a sore throat, sore joints and a headache... many good
things have happened this week, thanks to good old cortisol for helping
out with the stress load.
For VSAP, we raised more than $1000 in a week, for Apollo we had a
marvellous turnout to the concert, which was a brilliant success. Many
other things have happened which have made this week very worthwhile.
I'll end off with a quote from Grey's Anatomy, which I'm currently addicted to:
"Maybe we like the pain. Maybe we're wired that
way. Because without it, I don't know; maybe we just wouldn't
feel real. What's that saying? Why do I keep hitting myself
with a hammer? Because it feels so good when I stop." | | |
| Has been incredibly long since I last posted on this Xanga. I must say
that unfortunately this arises from the temptation of msn spaces, with
it's pretty sidebars, and functions!
However, I reckon Xanga is nice in it's own little way.
For those who don't have my msn spaces... I will give you a short summary:
Firstly:
At the Moon Cake celebrations I performed sign language to a short
piece, that I really liked: ÅÀñ¹! It was both humiliating and also cool
at the same time! Afterwards, food called and I think I might have
spent a lil too much money that day... hence my wallet feeling lighter!
A little while later, a close friend of mine had her 21st, was
organised by her boyfriend... and was a blast! Small, but the type that
more money can't buy!
A day or two later, my laptop decided to hold a strike against me, by
throwing a blue screen of death and refusing to start up! After taking
it apart, I think it's back to normal... but within this time, I
already ordered a SWEET desktop... which I am on right now. I don't
think I can use up all the memory on this beast, unless I put in tonnes
of movies! It's got 200Gigs!!!!
This tuesday, went to lecture and coordinate specialist maths... Wasn't
too bad apart, from me forgetting all of my differential equations
(well setting them up... bleh)! Was planning to help out with Chemistry
today as well.. but didn't get round to waking up before the arrival
time... oh well!! It's my hols anyway, so I do not have an obligation
to go... I don't get paid for it, and is purely volunteer work!
They already have twice the number of people required... and i mean
since all tutors and lecturers are med students, they know their stuff!

 ½2¨ÌªL - J-Game
If you're bored enuf to traverse to or across this small corner of the internet medium, then i guess it is probably my duty to at least entertain for a small duration of time
Let me start with an anecdote of Anatomy Prac on Thursday. Having read the prac summary, deeming it useless instantaneously, the decision was not to go. A little flicker of doubt lay in my mind, and was given very serious consideration during the time frame of that flicker, which one could almost describe as trivial. The fact that the content would probably be examinable in less than 4 days was of little value in its futile attempt to change my decision.
Firmly set in my mind not to waste this 3hrs on anatomy, I proceeded to waste as much of these 3hrs on pool, 9 ball, billiards and cut-throat instead. Now, to those who play the game regularly, it seems natural, but thinking logically about it... the game does seem a little strange!
Why would somebody invent a game for putting balls into pockets, by hitting them with other balls, which are in turn pushed by the most disadvantageous device, a pointy stick. After much heated and well though out discussion, lasting 20secs at most, the general consensus reached on the inventor's identity was drunkard, no brain, and too much time.
The logical follow on from such an important topic of discussion, would be perhaps why we would play it, but of course that was far too trivial for us to strain our minds over. I mean, it's not like we have too much time on our hands. We proceeded with no conversation, stupidly hitting a white ball around with a pointy stick... until... somebody chalked it up, whence the question beggin attention was who the hell thought of and actually tried using a writing implement, to put on a pointy stick to hit a ball? There are some really crazy ppl out there!
Enough of that...
Now I get to be selfish and self-centred in my world (How disgraceful? I mean, How dare he?), not like it's my blog is it?
...anyway...
Had an opthal placement on Wed... forcing me out of bed an awfully inhumanely awkwardly early hour of 8:30am... so inconsiderate! Still affected by the lack of sleep from this evil inconsiderate act aimed directly at me... for some unknown reason... I stumbled my way into the hospital, asked directions, and walked into the wrong clinic with the wrong doctor! After cursing a couple hundred times in full audibilty of everybody present, I did eventually correct my mistake.
Luckily it was an eye and ear hospital, so 1/2 of the people would be blind so couldn't see me, and the other 1/2 would be deaf and wouldnt be able to hear me.
...hopefully...
Thursday night saw me at a rehearsal, the last one before a concert sight-reading half of the music. The conductor didn't seem to notice, and carried on, so perhaps it wasn't such a big deal.
Come concert night Saturday, the performance seemed to work out not too badly, and apparently a record crowd had been lured this time, to create a Full House. They must've known I was playing of course! :P
